Saturday 8th November, the day of the display dawned wet and stayed that way all day.
The Parish Field was a sea of mud, yet despite this many wellie clad volunteers turned out to help set up the fireworks, and the attendant sound and lighting equipment.
By dusk, which came early due to the low cloud cover, all was in place and awaiting the arrival of the spectators.
People started arriving at around 7pm, and, amazingly, the rain stopped and the sky cleared.
The 'Henry' Team had set up a barbecue in the spectator area (aka the pub car park) and were doing a roaring trade with the food and of course with drinks from the bar.
There is no charge for admission, but several volunteers were out rattling buckets, and glow-necklaces were on sale for £1 each. Some people had stayed away because of the weather, so audience numbers were down on the previous year, but even so several hundred brave souls turned out to watch what proved to be a magnificent display, choreographed (this year) to classical 'pops'. Due to the pervasive damp, some of the pyros failed to ignite, but apart from one small gap in the middle, the aerial display was continuous, the sky was filled with colour, and the spectators were very lavish with their praise (and their bucket donations) afterwards.
Thanks are due to all the volunteers, including the 'Henry' Team; to all our wonderful and most generous sponsors; to all who contributed to the bucket collection; to the Castle for use of the Coach Park; to the Parish Council for use of the Field; and of course to all our spectators who make it worthwhile.
Here's to next year !
